2012 Ride to Conquer Cancer, it's going to be another EPIC ride!

I began this journey back in 2007 when I first heard about this ride. I had known many people who were affected by cancer. Friends, colleagues, and relatives. Some were suvivors, and sadly, some were not. It was after my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer that it really hit home. That was just getting too close. It scares you. Today she is healthy for which I am so grateful.

When I had heard about this Ride I thought, wow, now that is really something. What a way to make a statement about this disease. What a way to raise public awareness. And what a personal challenge.

That day in 2007 really struck a chord with me, and so I set out to meet the challenge. I trained, and I raised funds, and I asked everyone I knew for support. By the time June 2008 rolled around, I was fit and motivated and ready. I had been blessed with an overwhelming amount of help and love and support, as well as good health and I rode in the inaugural Ride To Conquer Cancer. That weekend we raised $14 Million. Thank you to all of you who have supported me during the last 4 years.

It is life changing. It really is. I don't quite know how to describe the feeling to people when they ask about the ride without feeling extremely emotional inside. Words cannot express the magnitude and importance and the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes with participating in this event. There is such a massive outpouring of love and humanity with everyone pulling together for a common goal: to conquer cancer in our lifetime.

Well, a few years have passed by now, and I am registered for the 2012 Ride To Conquer Cancer. This will be my 5th straight year participating. And it will be even more emotional than ever before.

I dedicated my 2011 Ride to my aunt Mary Jo who was in the midst of fighting through her 3rd battle with cancer. On August 19, 2011 she lost that battle. The 2012 Ride will be a ride in memory of her, to honour her and keep this fight going.

The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is a unique, two-day cycling event to take place on June 9-10, 2012, journeying over 200k or 200 miles through southern Ontario.

The money raised for The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer will benefit The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. The Princess Margaret has assembled a team of top doctors and scientists whose search for new discoveries and improved patient outcomes will have a real impact in our community, across Canada, and around the world.

My Plea For Help!

Folks, this is real help for those affected by cancer TODAY.  While there are many challenges facing the 28 million in the world who have been diagnosed, there are many things that can be done to improve their lives right now. Improved diagnostics, teaching, training of hospital staff, equipment, treatment plans, and pain management just to name a few things. Quality of life is so important, especially for those who are really battling tough.
Yes it's true, more can be done to fight this disease. More can be done in prevention of this disease. But I am also trying to find a way to help those who are affected RIGHT NOW.  TODAY.
While the world tries to find better answers, we can still be helping those around us to live better, feel better, get healthier and be happier.

Please consider joining me by supporting this event. Together we can beat this thing!

Thank you,

Scott (Burnzy)
